We had a fantastic day in Halifax at the Future Inns for this year’s Archie MacKeigan Educational Day!

The morning began with a “Dignity of Risk” presentation with Elizabeth Gillis of the Frailty and Eldercare Network. Elizabeth shared insights into frailty-informed care and how tools like the Clinical Frailty Scale can improve outcomes for older adults. Her presentation encouraged attendees to consider how autonomy, safety, and dignity intersect in care, and inspired some interesting discussions within the group.

Next, we welcomed Thivjan Tharmaratnam and Lora Church for “The Remedy and the Future of Care.” They explored Nova Scotia’s Human Rights Remedy and its vision for advancing person-centered care and human rights within the continuing care sector. Attendees appreciated the opportunity to better understand how this important framework impacts their work across the whole continuing care sector.

After a delicious lunch, attendees enjoyed visiting the Mini Trade Show, exploring vendor displays and making connections with colleagues and partners.

The afternoon session, “Psychological Health and Safety: From Awareness to Action” with Reza Jannati and Jonathan Murley from AWARE-NS, wrapped up the day with a great energy. This session delved into psychological health and safety in the workplace, touching on topics such as workplace violence, bullying, harassment, and resilience. Participants walked away with practical strategies for fostering safe, supportive, and respectful environments for both staff and residents.

The 2025 Education Day was engaging, informative, and full of opportunities to learn and share. We’re so grateful to our presenters, vendors, and everyone who attended for making the day such a success.

We can’t wait to welcome everyone back next year!
