CCANS believes in the power of education and continuous learning to help continuing care professionals deliver quality care, adapt and succeed in a crisis situation, and strengthen morale. We offer two incentive programs – the CCANS Bursary Program and CCANS Regional Education Fund.
CCANS offers three bursaries in the amount of $1000 each year to support those frontline staff who are furthering their education.
Application Timelines
- Bursary applications open on October 1, 2025
- Deadline to apply is November 28, 2025 at 5pm
- Bursaries recipients will be selected in December 2025
- Funds will be released in January 2026 with proof of enrolment
Criteria
- Applicants must currently be employed or volunteering in the longterm care sector and seeking opportunity to further their education. Consideration will also be given to students involved in the co-op program.
- Applicants must work in / be associated with a facility that belongs to the Continuing Care Association of NS and is in good standing.
- Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary program that has a program required by the continuing care sector. Examples include but are not limited to: CCA program, LPN program, RN program.
- Consideration will also be given to other programs however the primary focus is for frontline care providers at this time. The applicant must have 100+ hours of work, volunteer or co-op experience in a continuing care setting, and must be planning to return to the continuing care sector following their graduation.
Supporting Materials
- A resume with an attached cover letter (500-word max) detailing the qualities that make you a good candidate for the long-term care field and how you meet the above criteria.
- A list of any other grant money or bursaries that you have received from other sources.
- Proof of enrolment is required. Proof of acceptance at the time of application for courses in January is acceptable. If enrolment is in January, proof of enrolment will be required prior to the release of the bursary.
- A letter of recommendation from a manager within the CCANS facility, signed by the facility’s administrator.

Please Note: As part of our bursary program, we typically take a photo of the recipient receiving their cheque, which we may share on our website, social media, and in our newsletter. While this is standard practice, participation in the photo is not mandatory to receive the bursary.

We’re pleased to announce the recipients of the 2025–2026 Continuing Care Association of Nova Scotia’s $1,000 bursary! This award supports individuals working or volunteering in continuing care as they pursue further education and career development.
Natalie MacKay has worked in the recreation department at Townsview Estates in Truro, Nova Scotia and is currently completing the Master of Aging and Family Science program at Mount Saint Vincent University, specializing in the aging stream.
Lorraine Banks-Toole has been a Continuing Care Assistant for 18 years and currently works at Tibbet’s Home for Special Care and is furthering her education in the Practical Nursing program at NSCC.
Komal Vekariya is a full-time Continuing Care Assistant at Townsview Estates Nursing Home, with experience across hospitals, long-term care, and community-based settings, and is currently enrolled in the CCA PLAR program working toward registration in Nova Scotia in 2026.
