No, CCANS is not affiliated with Nova Scotia Health or its Continuing Care program.

Do you hire or employ continuing care staff?
No, CCANS does not employ or hire Continuing Care Assistants (CCAs) or other healthcare staff.
Our association is run almost entirely by volunteers, with one part-time contract role that supports board operations.
If you’re looking for a job in the sector, please contact individual member organizations such as long-term care homes or home care agencies directly. Many list opportunities on their own websites or local job boards.
Do you certify Continuing Care Assistants (CCAs)?
No, CCANS does not certify or license CCAs.
Certification and credentialing are managed by the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness and the CCA Program.

Membership & Opportunities
Who can become a member of CCANS?
Membership with the Continuing Care Association of Nova Scotia (CCANS) is open to organizations and partners across the continuing care sector. Memberships renew annually on April 1.
CCANS offers four membership categories:
- Full Members – licensed and funded service providers (e.g., long-term care, home care, community care).
- Associate Members – non-profits or individuals supporting CCANS’ mission.
- Corporate Members – companies that supply or partner with the continuing care sector.
- Honorary Members – individuals recognized for exceptional service to CCANS or the community.
Annual membership is $365, with pro-rated fees for new members joining mid-year.

What is the CCANS Bursary Program?
The CCANS Bursary Program supports continuing care professionals pursuing further education or training. Funding can help cover courses, certifications, or conferences that enhance skills and leadership within the sector.

What is the Regional Education Fund?
Each of Nova Scotia’s seven regions can apply for up to $6,000 per fiscal year to host front-line education sessions as part of the Archie MacKeigan Education Series.
Funds support regional events that are free for front-line staff working in CCANS member organizations, and can be used for venues, speakers, meals, and coffee breaks.
Applications are submitted by regional representatives using the Request for Funding Form. Requests are reviewed by the CCANS Executive, with a response within two weeks.

What events does CCANS host?
CCANS organizes two major annual events:
- Conference & Annual General Meeting (June) – networking, learning, and industry updates.
- Archie MacKeigan Educational Day (September / October) – focused on professional development.
We also support regional sessions throughout the year.

How is CCANS unique within Nova Scotia’s health and care sector?
CCANS is a dedicated provincial association representing Nova Scotia’s continuing care sector, including long-term care facilities licensed by the Department of Seniors and Long-Term Care, and community-based services that support seniors and people with disabilities who need ongoing or daily assistance. CCANS brings diverse providers together under one voice to strengthen the sector. Through advocacy, professional development, and collaboration, we help our members deliver quality care, build workforce capacity, and enhance living environments for the people and families they serve.
How is CCANS organized and funded?
CCANS is a non-profit association led by a volunteer Board of Directors with representatives from across Nova Scotia. We are funded through membership dues, event registrations, and sponsorships, all reinvested into advocacy, education, and member programs.
